Sophie Flello – Editorial & Media Executive
What’s the most important piece of advice you’ve been given?
Never lose your sparkle. It is better to be disliked for who you are rather than liked for a person you are not.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t rush life. Enjoy the little moments, love loudly and fiercely, learn from the heartbreak, and grow every day.
What are you most proud of?
I don’t feel like I have an “achievement” that I am proud of as such, but I am proud of the things I have achieved for myself. I have created a career that I would never have imagined, have the most beautiful network of people around me, and I’m the happiest that I’ve ever been. I think that’s something to be proud of.
Has BresicWhitney empowered you to be the best version of you – if so, how?
Absolutely. I have never felt more seen and more heard than I have at BW. It’s so empowering to be part of a business the encourages you to bring everything you have to the table, and be exactly who you are, without judgement. I don’t feel like I need to dim my light.
Which woman inspires you?
I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many beautiful, strong women – my best girlfriends, my colleagues, the women in my family. I’ve grown up with the best role models of women, but there’s no one quite like my Mum. She inspires me day in and day out, and is my biggest cheerleader. I am who I am because of her.
What does it mean to be a woman today?
To be a woman today, means we can do it all. Be resilient but understated, self-assured yet low-key, take charge but also support from the sidelines. In Australia, we have more freedom than ever, and I hope that one day, the rest of the world can adopt the same freedom for women.
